My summer bucket list

There is something about summer that makes me want to live life fully, do lovely things in order to make memories. Maybe its the sunny weather or long, light filled evenings. Those sun-filled, warm-breeze days are here with us again and with the schools just about to break up for the summer you might be looking for fun summer activities to fill the 6 weeks.

Are you ready for some summer funny? I have put together a list of some of the things I look forward to doing over the summer that are not going to cost a fortune if you are on a budget. What sort of things are on your summer bucket list?

  1. Read a novel for fun

My kids always sign up to the library’s Summer Reading Challenge (put together by The Reading Agency) where they have to read 6 books over the summer holidays. I often don’t have the time to read for pleasure so always see summer as an opportunity to sample at least one or two of the Booker Prize shortlisted books.

  2. Pick your own fruit

Such a nice day out with the kids in the late summer months. What can be better than eating the fruits of your labour!

  3. Attend an outdoor event

This year we are attending Summer Cycle at Kew Gardens - for a couple of evenings in the summer Kew Gardens is closed to the public and only bicycles are allowed in! A great way to explore the vast 300 acres of botanical gardens.

  4. Run through sprinklers

The simple things never loose their appeal.

  5. Have a picnic

Pack a lunch and take it outside. Go to a park or just put a blanket in your backyard. Enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, and the blue sky.

  6. Grown your own herbs (for the Pimms / G&T)

  7. Feel the sand between your toes

Summer is just not summer if you don’t get to go to the seaside, walk on a beach, eat fish and chips and Mr Wippy 99ers!

  8. Nap in a hammock or egg chair!

We are lucky to have an egg chair in our garden, it is like being back in the womb. The rhythmic, gentle, hypnotic motion is very soothing.

  9. Have a BBQ

  10. Toast marshmallows on a bonfire

  11. Sleep under the stars

  12. Go to an outdoor production or movie

We are going to watch a production of Cinderella in Windsor Great Park this summer. There is something even more magical and enchanting about a fairy tale told outdoors.

  13. Watch the sunrise

As an early bird I love getting up at the crack of dawn to go for a walk or a run. It is at this time of the day that I am most likely to spot a deer in the local woods or parks. An added bonus is catching the sunrise.

  14. Go on a scavenger hunt

  15. Visit a historical site

  16. Go somewhere you have never been

What better time to discover somewhere new than summer. Last year we walked sections of the River Thames. This year we might just stick a pin in a map and see where it takes us!

  17. Buy new stationary for September

New stationary is not just for back to school, I love the notebooks, smelly pens, pastel shaded highlighters! It doesn’t help me get any more organised but boy it does look pretty!

  18. Make smoothies or frappucinos

Stay cool with smoothies or iced drinks all summer long.

  19. Go birdwatching

This year a bird made its nest right outside my window and it’s been cool to watch the mama bird come and go. I use my app to identify the bird by it’s song!

I hope you got some good ideas from this list of summer activities.
